The Beginning.

And it begins.

We have put the deposit down on a 1975 Airstream Sovereign. She comes home in 6 days. We have to borrow a truck from a very generous friend in order to get it home from its current location in NC. I don't have any pictures yet, except the Craigslist ad (seen here) and that might not be active for much longer. You better believe we will have TONS of photos once we go to get it. The kind man we are buying it from agreed to put new tires on it and fix the brakes before we pick it up. Glad to know we'll have a smooth and safe ride home!

Once we get it home, she will need new plumbing (installed by the handy husband, of course) and probably new caulking around the windows and door. We plan to pull out the side cabinet along the couch, finish the floor there, and revamp the closets and kitchen cabinets. After all the "bones" are in place, I'll be recovering the sofa cushions and making new curtains. >phew!< It's gonna be a lot of work but, it'll be worth it in the end.

Why are we doing all of this, you ask? Because we plan to LIVE in the Airstream while we build a small house on our land. What's funny about this whole situation is that we haven't sold our current house yet and therefore we also don't own the land yet. Just the Airstream. Sound a little out of order? It does to me too... but we saw a good opportunity and we took it. If the house never sells we can always re-sell the camper and be no worse off than we are now. So, here's to the adventure! Whatever it becomes.

  1. Yeah! I'm so glad you're chronicling this! I hope it all works out and your house sells. Any interest yet?
